This is one of the first things I wrote about money, to our newsletter list from Indie Birth (our other amazing project). My interest in abundance, money, women and magic came from my experiences working as a midwife and educator of birth workers, and immense lack conditioning I saw there. MONEY! Did you just clench your buttcheeks? Feeling constricted? Well, unclench and take an expansive breath my friend, because I’m going to share some of my favorite money related resources with you in just a moment. In our little Indie Birth world we see SO MANY money “problems”. Women telling us they can’t afford a midwife or doula. Midwives telling us they are broke as a joke and can’t get clients to pay their bills. Aspiring birth workers telling us they can’t afford our reasonably priced doula and midwifery training programs (even though they will also turn them into successful business owners doing what they love, so it should be a no brainer). Every week, people are wanting our services for free, our trainings for free, because they are in poverty or barely scraping by paycheck to paycheck. It’s sad as f***! While we love gifting our services and courses when it feels right and like it moves us towards a more beautiful world, what we would REALLY love is to help women get to a place where they can (until the gift economy comes into full existence) use money as a tool to take care of themselves, buy what they want, pay for the trainings they want, and launch the revolutionary businesses/services they are called to. What I mean is that I FEEL SAD AND MAD AS HELL that these visionary, kind, soulful women are in a place of lack and “not enoughness” with money, which, spoiler alert, is visible in other areas of their lives, too. I want women to bring their magic to the world, our world NEEDS you to bring your magic to the world, and money is one of the tools to make it happen. Our world would be more beautiful if the dreamers (YOU!!!) had the money they needed to bring their dreams into fruition. So, because of all of that, I am feeling called to expand my repertoire and offerings to include super fun financial counseling around money, magic, building the life of your dreams and creating this more beautiful world together. I by no means have it “all figured out” but my brain is really good at problem solving, number crunching and asking the right questions to help you dismantle your limiting beliefs around money. I want to bring my coaching style (mostly involving humor, bluntness and accountability) to this other aspect of our lives as women. I’m not ready to start offering this quite yet, but I WILL be offering 1:1 coaching and group experiences soon. So in the spirit of this money topic, I’m including a few of my favorite money resources to get you started thinking about all this, if money (and your own self worth, DING DING DING) is something you want to untangle and find peace with in 2022. Hit reply and tell me if you especially love any of this, or want to be on the top of my list when these money coaching offerings are ready – I love hearing from you! Love, Margo |

Budgeting as a Couple Part of the struggle I’m seeing a lot is from women who are in relationships where they are either earning less, or not earning income as stay at home moms, and their relationship to money has become disconnected and confusing. No matter what about you earn in your household, you should be part of the money conversation, and you should have clarity around how much is coming in, and where the money is going out. Money is energy, and developing a better, more transparent relationship with it is step #1 in moving out of victim mode around money and finances. Read this article to get ideas about how to tackle this within the context of a relationship. Clever Girl Finance also has a bunch of free courses you should check out. Click here to read |

You Need a Budget This is the name of the app, and a correct statement 🙂 If you are struggling with money and your sense of abundance, you need a budget. Think of this as a spiritual practice of getting right with the flow of energy in your life if you need to (am I speaking your language?). Using YNAB (You Need a Budget) has changed my life. I have been using it since 2014 when we were expecting our first baby when I needed more feelings of security around our finances. It helped us go from living in a retro single wide trailer to buying our dream home on 5 acres within 6 years, building two of our own businesses, and not making a ton of money in any given year. I plan to change that, but still, my point is that budgeting is magic, no matter how much you’re making. It is bringing intention and attention to the flow of money energy in your life – in and out – but this requires your attention, mindfulness, and crafting a new relationship to money (dealing with those big feelings and fear!). The Art of Money I read this awhile ago and enjoyed it as a resource for maturing your relationship with money! Sometimes it really is just bringing more attention to what you’d like to change that invites the magic in, so if you don’t read this particular book, maybe check out some others on money that speak to you. Also, pro tip (that saves money!) there is an extension you can get that will show you if a book you’re looking at on Amazon is in your local library! I use this myself, and it rocks – link below. Check out the book here Check out the Library Extension here! |

Workweek Lunch I’ve plugged this before, but it’s worth a mention again – this service offers you meal prep plans weekly (don’t get caught up in their sort of terrible name that makes no sense ha!). It isn’t just for lunch, and is a really inspiring and exciting, and cheap way to work meal prep into your life, which reduces your grocery bills and also decreases the amount of time you spend in the kitchen so you can spend more time with your kids, or working on your side hustle! Check it out here. |
